Partnership Vision - Stronger Together
Who Are We?
We are a federation based in Tower Hamlets, currently comprising of 2 Primary Schools and 1 Secondary School.
Committed to educational excellence, we are a values-driven organisation, underpinned by our vision that schools are ‘Stronger Together in Partnership.’
As a Federation we are proud of the unique traditions that have shaped our 3 exceptional schools, Hague Primary, Stewart Headlam Primary and Swanlea Secondary, but also of the value of partnership which has allowed us to share strengths and grow together. We have achieved much in terms of Quality of Education, Curriculum Development, Teaching & Learning, Leadership Development, Cultural Capital & Enrichment and building Sustainable School Systems.
Weavers Federation - Our Shared Heritage
Weavers Field is the green heart of our community - where families play, socialise, and connect. But it's also our history. From the 1700 to 1900s, the Huguenot silk weavers lived and worked - migrants who brought extraordinary skill to the East End textile industry. Brick Lane and Spitalfields are known for links to the textile industry and which many of our current Bangladeshi families have historic connections. 1000s of children attended our schools formerly known as:
- Wilmot Street Board School, Hague Street School now known as Hague
- Summerford Street Board School now known as Stewart Headlam.
These schools each had 1200 - 1500 pupils.
Then and now, our community is built by people bringing their strengths together. In silk weaving, individual threads - no matter how beautiful - are fragile alone. But when you weave them together - warp and weft - they create something strong, resilient, and valuable.
That's us, it started with the primaries and grew - 3 headteachers, Cathy Gillespie, Judy Knappett and Brenda Landers in an area of following roles, our Federation grows. Woven together, we're stronger, more sustainable, and better able to ensure excellence thrives across both schools.
Federation is the flattest equitable partnership structure for school leadership built on trusting relationships.
Our Mission
To be exceptional in: teaching; leading; and learning.
